About Tom Doherty

I’ve been in sales since the third grade.

That is not a metaphor. I sold newspapers door to door in a small town in Michigan before I could ride a bike without training wheels. Decades later the job description got fancier — Product Manager, Product Marketing Manager, Product Owner at Hewlett-Packard, Cisco, Microsoft, Workday, and a handful of other companies — but the core instinct never changed: figure out what people actually need, build something that delivers it, and make sure they know it exists.

The story

The craft got buried. So I dug it back out.

The pain of the “before” was never a lack of skill. It was watching that craft get buried. Companies burned marketing budgets just to keep their funnels full. They celebrated a 3% conversion rate while ignoring the 97% who leaked out the sides. They forgot the customers they had already won the moment the team pivoted to hunting the next batch of leads.

Meanwhile the GTM content world handed teams glossy, theory-heavy PDFs and frameworks that never got executed — the kind marketing creates when the funnel is empty and the VP of Sales is angry. Everyone was running on consumption. Nobody was running on regeneration.

The first moment

AI is the ringer, not a mascot.

Every great team has a player who warps the game around their presence. AI is that player for modern GTM. The secret is that a real playbook has a game clock, a workback schedule, tools, prompts, and sequences you can run on Monday morning.

The second moment

The Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid.

Porsche didn’t just add power. They built a closed loop where every braking zone became fuel for the next acceleration. That is when it hit me: connect the funnel you already have to a flywheel, and every customer becomes a growth engine.

Today

Playbooks, a newsletter, and a quiet office a mile and a quarter up in the Sierra.

Today I write and build playbooks. Real ones, with game clocks, workback schedules, AI tools, prompts, and sequences a team can run on Monday morning. I live in Incline Village, Nevada, and I run a Starlink Mini a mile and a quarter up in the Sierra — so my office is quiet, wide open, and wherever I happen to be that day.

My days are spent authoring The AI-Accelerated Playbook Series™, writing the Monday Morning Marketer newsletter, publishing Tom’s AI Tools Review, writing on Medium, and being published in the Product Marketing Alliance.

What I actually believe
